PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A black owned Southeast Texas radio station has been in business for over 20 years.

For the past 20 years, the breeze has showcased all types of music across genres while becoming a platform for important issues in the community.

The station is located off Dallas Avenue and 5th Street.

The station was launched in the early 2000s.

"They gave us an opportunity to when they passed legislation to let us have a community radio station, which is called low power FM, which is about 100 watts of power, that is the same amount to light up your front porch light," said Mosely.

Their signal strength stretches about five to seven miles. A big focus for the station is highlighting what listeners need to know in the community.

Mosley says while the station has become a staple in the community, the contributions of other DJs has given The Breeze it's iconic programming.

They even open the seat to aspiring radio personalities free of charge.

"We are giving young people the opportunity to learn a lot more and open the doors into the industry, to give everyone the chance to learn," he said.

The station is a nonprofit that survives off donations and grants. They accept donations on their website.
