BEAUMONT, Texas — The Big Thicket Association is holding their 11th annual Neches River Rally on September 7 and when you participate in this event, it helps give back to the organization.
"We operate nature's river adventures, which we do free environmental education for all schools in Southeast Texas. So that's a huge program," said Diane Thompson.
The rally is open for registration and is fun for the whole family.
"It's for canoes and kayaks," said Thompson. "It's a paddling event for the family, but it's a way for us to share our mission, to tell others about the Big Thicket National Preserve. We offer five launch times for our participants, starting at 8 o'clock. So we have 8, 8:30, 9:30, 10 o'clock. So you can choose your own launch time."
After a day on the water, your ticket comes with extra perks.
"You get back, grab lunch here, because we have the hamburger lunch for you with your registration," Thompson said. "We have live music with John Csack. Just relax and enjoy the day. You can have free rides on the Ivory Bill boat as well, and then tours of the Saltwater Barrier."
Don't have a canoe? No problem!
"Our outfitter will help you get into a boat, get you set up, and teach you how to paddle before you even set off," Thompson explained.
It's currently $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
"It's just a day of family fun to be in nature and enjoy something this close to home," Thompson said.
Early bird registration for the event ends on Friday August 23, 2024, but registration for the event as a whole ends on the August 30 so be sure to sign up for the event if you would like to attend.
