Beaumont's Stiles Unit officers stop escape attempt

BEAUMONT, Texas — An escape attempt was stopped on Monday by correctional officers at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont.

Administration at the unit received information about a possible escape plan and took action, including an in-depth search. Materials that could be used to assemble a dummy were found, and other paraphernalia that may be used in an escape attempt according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Twitter.

Some of our followers in the Beaumont area may already be familiar with rumors of an escape at the Stiles Unit there. Thanks to the outstanding diligence of the staff and Correctional Officers at the Stiles Unit an escape attempt was foiled earlier today.

Unit Administration received information about a possible escape plot and took immediate action. An in-depth search found materials that could be used to assemble a dummy and other paraphernalia which could aid in an escape attempt.

“This is a testament to the commitment of the team at the Stiles Unit to public safety,” said TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division Director Lorie Davis. “It is that commitment that makes a difference not just today but every day.”

All offenders at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont have been accounted for and the unit remains in lockdown. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
