BEAUMONT — The new Beaumont United High School's first day of band camp kicked-off in sweltering Texas weather, Monday.
More than 70 kids showed up for practice as they march to the beat of drums in the 97 degree heat.
Head Band Director, Mark Martin says that they don't plan to slow the intensity down. Martin says that he's making sure students are hydrating themselves before practice and drinking three bottles of water during practice.
Some of the instruments students are carrying weigh up to 25 pounds.
"We are very aware of our students physical well being and always plan to take breaks when needed," said Martin.
Martin says they're looking to have at least 140 students in the band before school starts.
