BEAUMONT — Sears is hoping to sell many stores including the Beaumont location in an online auction.
Adam Morgan is discouraged at the possibility of Sears leaving Parkdale Mall.
"I’d be disappointed because all you'd have is Walmart brands and Target brands I guess," Morgan said.
Sears may not be leaving the space after a bid is finalized.
According to Real Insight Marketplace, the anchor store could be sold in either a fee simple option or a sale-leaseback option.
Fee simple means the highest bidder owns the store and can do with it as the bidder wishes.
The sale-leaseback option means the store could be sold, but Sears would rent out the building from the buyer, ultimately staying at the mall.
Morgan is hoping that the store stays at the mall.
"I preferred them over Conn's when buying appliances," Morgan said.
Real estate group Cushman & Wakefield is partnering with Real Insight Marketplace to host the online auction which begins on May 22.
Potential bidders would have to sign up before May 1. 12News reached out to Sears for comment.
