Beaumont Police patrol unit involved in major wreck along Major Dr near Hwy 105

An 18-wheeler and a passenger car also appeared to be involved in the wreck that left debris scattered across the roadway.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont Police Department patrol unit was involved in a major multi-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon in Beaumont.

The wreck along North Major Dr. near Northwest Parkway forced the closure of all lanes of Major Dr.

An officer was driving a patrol vehicle going northbound on Major Dr.  A Honda Accord didn't yield right of way while making a turn onto Major Dr., according to BPD PIO Carol Riley.

The officer attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The impact pushed the patrol vehicle into oncoming lanes of traffic and it was hit by an 18-wheeler, Riley said.

The wreck, which happened at about 1:10 p.m., left debris scattered across the roadway.

The officer and driver of the Honda were transported to to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The wreck was cleared and all lanes were reopened by 2:50 p.m. according to Police.
