86-year-old Sour Lake woman dies in Beaumont wreck Wednesday afternoon

Beaumont police say a woman driving a small car struck a pickup truck when trying to make a U-turn on College St. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont police are investigating a wreck that left one woman dead near College St. and Lindbergh Dr. Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024 at 4:02 p.m., a white Chevy Cobalt exited a parking lot in the 5400 block of College St. and went east.

At the time, a black F-250 was also going east when the driver of the white Cobalt attempted a U-turn and struck the F-250, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

The driver of the Cobalt, now identified as 86-year-old Connie Beard, of Sour Lake, was pronounced dead on the scene by Beaumont EMS. 

Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr. ordered an autopsy. 

The driver of the F-250 had minor injuries and was treated by EMS, but not transported, according to the release. 

At the time police were working the wreck, all eastbound traffic on College St. was diverted onto Lindbergh Dr. and westbound traffic on College St. was down to one lane.
