Motorcycle wreck claims life of Sour Lake man early Sunday along Interstate 10 in Beaumont

The rider lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to close a saddle bag that had come open according to police.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 56-year-old Sour Lake man died early Sunday morning in a motorcycle wreck along Interstate 10 in Beaumont.

James Bolt, 56, of Sour Lake, was riding a motorcycle in the 1000 block of Interstate 10 North in front of Classic Acura just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

After investigating, police say that Bolt was attempting to close a saddle bag that had come open as he was riding along eastbound Interstate 10 when he lost control.

After he lost control, his motorcycle hit the concrete median wall and Bolt was thrown from the motorcycle into the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 where he was struck by an 18-wheeler that police were not able to identify.

Medics from Beaumont EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

The wreck and ensuing investigation forced the closure of all lanes of the interstate for several hours but all were reopened by about 6 a.m. police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the wreck.
