BEAUMONT — The Beaumont Independent School District is gearing up for another football season but this year they will have some new features out at Memorial Stadium.
“Southeast Texas football is something that is very big and everybody’s excited about it," said Joseph Malbrough, Chief of the Beaumont ISD police department.
Chief Malbrough says beginning on Friday fans will see new security measures at each gate.
“The climating culture we’re having to deal with now we are having to kind of reassess all of our public venues just to assure that we are providing the adequate safety measures to assure public safety.”
The district also plans to add more officers around the stadium but this is only precautionary measures.
Chief Malbrough says the district hasn't had any problems before but this is just something they feel they need to do to ensure the safety of all who attend.
“As far as I can remember we have never had an incidence here at any of our athletic events of such caliber," Chief Malbrough said. This is just something of course of precautionary purpose measures we are taking to ensure the overall safety of our public of the community of our students our staff our players.”
Some other restrictions include bag size.
No backpack will be allowed and purses should be no bigger than a blank piece of paper.
The district also wants to stress that this may take a little longer to enter the stadium than normal as many fans will be asked to empty their pockets and bags.
“We encourage early arrival so that our patrons and our fans have enough time to get to their seats and see the game fully.”
The first game at the new Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium is this Friday.
