BEAUMONT, Texas — Hardware stores are stocking up on supplies to prepare for Tropical Storm Francine.
While Beaumont is avoiding the the brunt of the storm, many travelers from out of town are expected to grab supplies from the city.
Places like M&D Supply are stocking up and trying to get ahead of the storm. They say travelers from all over Texas and Louisiana are coming to buy generators.
"A lot of times you'll see other areas like Louisiana, or the closer areas nearby that do not have the generators, they ran out," said Jack Robinson, manager at M&D Supply.
M&D Supply is one of several hardware stores across Southeast Texas rolling out generators and supplies.
"They ran out of water, they ran out of flashlights, they ran out of batteries. But not us. We've been through this many times and we have plenty on hand," said Robison.
Customers say having a generator during a storm is necessary.
"This is Southeast Texas. You don't want to live without a generator in Southeast Texas. You don't have to be here long to figure that out, and it doesn't matter what season it is. It's year around," said Jeanne Stephens.
Robinson says a generator could save you down the road.
"Lighten that load and take some of that stress off, and you can run your coffee, your TV. Importantly your refrigerator so all your food doesn't spoil," said Robinson.
Robison says the store has already seen an influx of customers Monday morning.
"Already today our flashlight isle is getting hit, which is good. Our parking lot is full right now. We have a lot of customers here," said Robinson.
For life-long customer Jeanne Stephens, protecting her plants is a must.
"Always been something that was important to me is my plants. I keep them close to the front door anyway. So, that would be a good idea to go ahead and get them in," said Stephens.
Down the road, the City of Beaumont is also prepping for Tropical Storm Francine.
"With the national weather service and all of our department heads, are also involved in the meeting," said Mayor Roy West. "The amount of rain and wind, and flooding would impact how the cities going to respond. Right now we're looking to be in the favorable spot."
Mayor West says the city is planning to continue normal operations.
