Beaumont firefighters asking for public's help to 'Fill-the-Boot', support Muscular Dystrophy Association

Fill the Boot is a program where firefighters across the United States join forces to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont firefighters are spread out all across the city today asking the public to help them fight, not flames, but a disease that affects thousands every year.

Fill-the-Boot is a program where firefighters across the United States join forces to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

That is why today, Beaumont Professional Firefighters Local 399 are perched on the corner of most major intersections throughout the city, asking for donations.

"For nearly 30 years, Beaumont Fire & Rescue and the members of Local 399 have proudly partnered with MDA, raising thousands of dollars to help fund research, provide critical resources, and give children the opportunity to attend MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families," David Carpenter IAFF Local 399 Beaumont Professional Firefighters told 12News.

For the Local 399 supporting the cause is just as much of a duty as keeping the City of Beaumont safe.

"Filling-the-Boot for MDA is not just a fire service tradition, it’s a promise to those in need of a cure that we will stand with them until one is found," said Carpenter.

According to their website Fill-the-Boot has raised just over $200K across the nation, but are still looking to hit their goal of $2M.

"For many families, the Fill-the-Boot Drive is a beacon of hope, as the funds raised contribute to advancements in science, technology, and the research necessary to find a cure," said Carpenter.

Those who aren't able to stop and donate in person can always click the link and donate online.

Saturday, November 16 is the last day of Fill-the-Boot however, MDA will continue to accept donations at any time.
