Beaumont Comic Con finishes weekend run at Dogget Ford Park

The weekend-long event drew vendors, cosplayers and comic book fanatics from around Southeast Texas and the U.S.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont Comic Con wrapped up another weekend of everything from comics to cos play Sunday at Doggett Ford Park in Beaumont.

The weekend-long event drew vendors, cosplayers and comic book fanatics from around Southeast Texas and the U.S.

The convention's founder says it's all about unity and coming together to celebrate a common interest.

"There's not really a lot of comic con or comic conventions in our area so it's nice to have one at least to go to," said Cindy Mai, who was at the convention for a second year.

Mai and her brothers made their second Beaumont Comic Con visit to participate in cosplay portraying characters from "Honkai: Star Rail."

Adam Mai dressed as Boothill, Brian Mai dressed as "Blade," while Cindy Mai dressed as Feixiao.

The convention gave the siblings as well as others an opportunity to dress up as their favorite fictional character from their favorite video game or comic.

"We're just showing ourselves," said Adam Mai.. "Getting out there and just a really unique feeling to be doing this type of experience."

The comic con was filled with more than just cosplay and included comic books, toys, collectibles and celebrities, according to convention founder Clint Randolph.

Tami Erin who starred in the 1988 film "The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking" greeted fans at a booth at the convention on Sunday afternoon.

Local vendors like Comics Kingdom owner, Scott Smithhart, see the convention as a way to connect their customers and meet new ones.

"A lot of my customers come here," Smithhart said, "And I get new customers that don't know I exist, plus, we make good sales here at the show."

Vendors also make trades with each other, according to Smithhart.

"I have customers that have want lists," he says. "And this helps me to. I'LL say oh I know that guys gonna want this. And so I'LL trade for it and then sell it to him in the store. That helps me fill their list."
