BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont City Council has passed a resolution Tuesday afternoon to give pay raises and benefits to four city officials.
The City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, and the Chief Magistrate will all be receiving a 2% "cost of living increase" to help keep up with inflation, as well as a compensation package from the City of Beaumont.
While the 2% cost of living increase is the same for all four officials, the additional compensation packages for contribution to a retirement account or program or other purpose of their choice will vary by position.
For instance, the City Manager will receive an additional compensation of $30K, and the City Attorney, City Clerk, and Chief Magistrate will all receive an additional $23K.
All other allowances, compensation, benefits, terms, and conditions of their employment with the City shall remain the same according to the council.
The additional compensation packages were reportedly a dividing factor for the council, with councilman Randy Feldschau voicing concerns of ongoing budget issues.
Due to these concerns, Felsdschau as well as two other councilmembers, voted against the resolution.
This resolution will go into effect immediately.
