BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont City Council has taken another step in ensuring the safety of students across the city.
Tuesday afternoon the council voted unanimously to pass the consent agenda, which included an item creating a new school zone on Sarah Street.
This item came to fruition mainly to help the students of Evolution Academy, a public charter school serving grades nine through twelve which has been in operation since 2013.
The school is located within Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at 3920 West Cardinal Drive in Beaumont, Texas, and it was recently brought to the staff's attention that students from nearby apartments and neighborhoods frequently walk along the west side of Sarah Street as they commute to and from school.
In order to make these student's journeys safer, the staff recommended establishing a reduced speed zone on Sarah Street.
The new zone would be from 920 feet west of the centerline of Rohi Street to a point 80 feet west of the centerline of Fatima Street.
The map showing the exact location of the new school zone can be found here.
