BEAUMONT, Texas — Redemption Church in Beaumont is doing their part to help revitalize downtown with their new expansion efforts.
The Church is almost done with its "first phase" of construction which will add a sanctuary, a stage, and a balcony.
Pastor Brian Ellis says he hopes that the renovations will breath new life, not only into the church, but the rest of downtown as well.
The church is expanding into what use to be a nightclub many years ago. Now housing a very different type of gathering than what it was originally built for.
Pastor Ellis's goal is to continue to preserve downtowns rich history, while helping bring back local businesses, and of course bring in more churchgoers.
"We've really kind of seen Beaumont come to life, and we want to be a part of that," said Pastor Ellis.
As Downtown Beaumont continues to grow, members of redemption church want to do their part to help.
"Considering it's been out of code for 20 years, and it's a 100-year-old building. The total cost of the project's about 3.5 million," said Pastor Ellis.
The 7 figure donations from existing members will add on a new stage, screens, and plenty of seating.
"There's going to be about 450 downstairs, 150 upstairs," said Pastor Ellis.
The new space has allowed the church to give its youth congregation their own Sunday services in the current sanctuary.
"This will all be transformed into what is our next gen wing," said Pastor Ellis, gesturing around the building. "So right now we have four classrooms, but we're going to turn into nine classrooms and a sensory room for children with special needs."
Pastor Ellis says members are beyond thrilled to see their generous to see their generous donations put to good use.
Pastor Ellis an increase in members means more money for downtown businesses.
"Once people find out we have 1000 people every Sunday who are worshiping here, I think more restaurants and businesses are going to want to open up around because there is life that's happening here," said Pastor Ellis.
Pastor Ellis says construction will move quickly. The church wants to gather April 6 for a grand opening celebration.
"I believe Downtown Beaumont is primed for a revival!" said Pastor Ellis.
