BEAUMONT, Texas — The family of Kay-Alana Turner, who has been missing for more than a year, now believe that her remains have been found.
Texas EquuSearch found what is believed to be the remains of the 27-year-old Southeast Texas woman not far from where she was last seen 407 days ago according to a Facebook page that her family has been using to post updates on the search.
Texas EquuSearch said that they found the remains while searching on a private property in Magnolia Friday.
Turner had been missing since March 10, 2023, when she fled from Harris County Deputies near Tomball during what appeared to be a mental health crisis.
While the post says that they are awaiting positive identification from the medical examiner it says "from what we know she has been in the presence of God since that date."
"Texas EquuSearch went above and beyond for our Kay and we thank God for them, : the post goes on to say. "We will be silent on this page for a season. Thank you all for your prayers they are our strength."
On the morning of Turner's disappearance, Harris County deputies responded to a call in a Tomball neighborhood. Someone reported seeing a woman in her car who would not leave their driveway.
According to public documents, Turner tried to drive off after two responding deputies arrived, nearly running over the deputies in the process.
She was last seen driving into a wooded area.
Her parents have told 12News recently that they felt that Harris County was treating their daughter like a fugitive, saying the sheriff's office refused to hand over any body or dash cam footage that could help provide them with answers.
"Just simple embarrassment. She had to be painted to be a much more dangerous criminal, that she was not at all," her father Robby Calhoun said.
