BEAUMONT, Texas — Saturday is one Port Arthur native’s big day. His first feature film "I'm Coming Home'' will premiere at the historic Jefferson Theatre.
Film crews started filming back in 2015 in Southeast Texas and now nearly 10 years later it is finally ready for audiences.
The filmmakers say the premiere is a bittersweet moment. Some of the cast and crew who were a part of the movie are no longer around to see the finished project.
“I’m Coming Home” highlights the story of a Port Arthur man who makes a life changing decision.
"I believe anyone can come to a point where they want to make a positive change in their life, and that's the premise." said Film Writer and Director Christopher Newman.
Newman made it a point to hire local actors and film crews with Texas roots.
"We worked with people from Houston, Baytown. A lot of people from this area, Beaumont and Port Arthur. So we work with a lot of talented people, and we got a lot of work done. There is more than filming, the post, pre-production and engineering,” he said.
The process was delayed even more by the pandemic.
But now the wait is over. The film will finally premiere Saturday night at the Jefferson Theatre.
Actor and Producer Donnie Thomas tells 12News their movie touches on the real issues of Port Arthur.
"This is what goes on in our community, it's everyday things. Like we talk about the gun violence that's going on and marital issues. It's just real," Thomas said.
They are hoping for a great community turnout, to not only see them, but even some Houston artists.
"We have Lil Keke, and Johnny Dang and others, so I hope the community will come out and support,” siad Thomas.
Tickets can be purchased at the Jefferson Theatre box office for ten dollars.
The premiere starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024.
