46-year-old inmate at Federal Correctional Institution Beaumont found unresponsive, pronounced dead at hospital

Employees initiated life-saving measures after Martinez-Alfaro was found unresponsive around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 46-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Beaumont was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at a hospital. 

Jose Guadalup Martinez-Alfaro was found unresponsive at FCI Beaumont around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Employees initiated life-saving measures on Martinez-Alfaro. 

EMS were requested while life-saving efforts continued. Martinez-Alfaro was transported by EMS to a local hospital and was pronounced dead by hospital personnel, according to a release. 

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified. 

No employees or additional inmates were injured and the public was not in danger during any time. 

Martinez-Alfaro was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas to a 37-month sentence for "alien unlawfully found in the United States after deportation," according to a release.

He had been in custody at FCI Beaumont, which is a low security facility, since June 21, 2024.
