PORT NECHES, Texas — More than 300 runners laced up their shoes this morning for the second annual Neches Labor Day 5K.

The run started this morning bright and early at Port Neches Riverfront Park with a "Kids K" at 7 a.m. followed by the 5K main event at 7:30 a.m.

Organizers with 3 Bros Running Company say their goal is to bring the "big city race experience" and they didn't disappoint.

Participants ran through the heart of Port Neches, finishing at the park pavilion.

"You know, it don't matter if you finish first or last. 3.1 is 3.1"

Monday's race not only promoted health and fitness but also supported Adaptive Sports for Kids. Their goal is to give children with disabilities the chance to participate in sports.
