These stories highlight what our community represents: setting an example, leading the way and celebrating one another.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas has had a year of growth, wicked weather and interesting animal stories. But this year, we also saw huge headlines coming from people who have put Southeast Texas first.

Trail Blazers, Trend setters, and people putting Southeast Texas first. 2023 is a year of celebrating one another.

Starting with a shout-out from rapper Drake, his song "Amen" became a viral sensation after featuring the voice memo from the Mercedes Benz of Beaumont. Guess Even global stars appreciate a little local touch.

And sibling lifesavers, Mary Stankus and Vu Nguyen saved two girls from drowning at a birthday party in Bridge City. They're heroic actions, a reminder of the power of looking out for one another.

"Forever they'll be embedded in our timeline and a part of our lives now," Stankus said.

Vidor Police Officer, Brittany Haley, helped save a man threatening to jump from an overpass. She's the 409 epitome of compassion in law enforcement.

Haley was honored as Texas' "Officer of the Year."

"She doesn't look at herself as a hero that day. She looks at herself as just doing her job," Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said.

And making history.

A special proclamation for Veteran Norris Batiste, the first Black U.S. Marshal in East Texas. The city recognized him for His trailblazing journey and overcoming adversity.

And a headline we won't soon forget.

"The PNG Indians win a State Championship."

A journey of resilience and redemption to bring home the trophy for the first time since 1975.

These stories highlight what our community represents: setting an example, leading the way and celebrating one another.
