BEAUMONT, Texas — An overturned 18-wheeler snarled traffic along Interstate 10 west of Beaumont for several hours on Thursday afternoon.
At about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, the 18-wheeler was headed east in the outside lane of Interstate 10 near mile marker 843, near the Goodyear Plant, when the driver swerved to the right to avoid hitting a passenger car that had crossed into his lane according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The 18-wheeler then left the road and ran into the ditch where it rolled onto its side the release reported.
A 56-year-old Louisiana man, who was driving the truck, was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont to be treated for minor injuries, according to the DPS.
The car did not stop and was not found.
Eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down just after 2 p.m. so that the truck could be removed. All lanes were reopened by 3:45 p.m.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
