ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating a fiery wreck that left one person dead in Orange County Wednesday evening.
It happened on state Highway 62, at the intersection of Nan Drive on Dec. 13, 2023 around 6 p.m.
Preliminary crash investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Z71 pickup, towing a trailer, was traveling north on SH62, followed by a Chevrolet 2500 pickup.
It is reported that the Chevrolet Z71 slowed to make a left turn onto Nan Drive and was struck in the rear by the Chevrolet 2500. After impact, the Chevrolet 2500 caught fire, according to a news release from DPS.
The 54-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Z71 was not injured.
The driver of the Chevrolet 2500, now identified as 71-year-old Geary Noble of Orange, was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Hershel Stagner.
This is an ongoing investigation.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6 p.m., a Chevrolet Z71 pickup, towing a trailer, was traveling north on S.H. 62, followed by a Chevrolet 2500 pickup. It is reported that the Chevrolet Z71 slowed to make a left turn onto Nan Drive and was struck in the rear by the Chevrolet 2500. After impact, the Chevrolet 2500 caught fire. The driver of the Chevrolet Z71, identified as 54-year-old Edwin Laughlin of Orange, was not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet 2500, was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner. Their identity is not immediately available. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
