Southeast Texas emergency officials, TxDOT, Entergy prepare for storm

With the threat in the Gulf, plans are in place for local agencies to keep people safe

BEAUMONT, Texas — A potential weather threat has had Southeast Texas community leaders talking for weeks. 

The top priority in the case of a potential threat: the safety of their community.

Entergy has crews on standby in case people lose power. If more crews are needed, they have workers ready for the call.

Beaumont police officers are currently being briefed on the storm. They will have a solid plan in place in the next 24 hours.

At the Jefferson County Jail, Captain Crystal Holmes said supplies has been coming in for days. This will help inmates and staff to have the needed items in case of a storm. 

The jail has its own water system. 

There are no evacuation orders right now.

Holmes said each storm is different and preparations are made accordingly.

The Texas Department of Transportation said to make sure you know your evacuation route. 

Interstate 10 is not an evacuation route.

TxDOT has been preparing for months for hurricane season and potential damage. Chainsaws, along with heavy equipment, is ready in case crews need to break down debris caused by potential severe weather.
