Investigators have determined a Vidor man killed in an auto-pedestrian accident over the weekend, was involved in a one vehicle crash prior to his death.
Authorities said it appeared that Jerry Wilson, 41, of Vidor fled from a crash site on Green Pond Road and walked two miles to Highway 90 near Keith Rd. where he was struck and killed at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a press release by the Department of Public Safety, Wilson had crashed his 2007 Dodge truck on Green Pond Road where investigators found the truck in a ditch Sunday morning.
Investigators determined Wilson was walking eastbound on Highway 90 when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Nissan SUV. From the evidence, authorities said it appeared that Wilson was walking in the outside lane (slow lane) of Highway 90 when he was struck. This portion of the highway is in rural Jefferson County and is not lit with street lights.
Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was a 67 year old woman from Beaumont. There were no reported injuries for the driver or her passenger.
Troopers are still investigating the fatal crash.
