The City of Groves Saturday remembered a brave little girl who fought courageously against a congenital heart defect until she passed away in 2008 when she was four-years-old. Participants in the fifth annual Avery Anne Guerra day had lots of pink balloons at Bruce's Market Basket.

Avery was an amazing little girl who brought joy to every person with whom she came in contact. She attended pre-school at the Nederland School of Montessori and was the "mascot" for The Dance Company of Debbie's Dance, Etc. in Groves. She loved spending time with her family and friends and dancing for her MiMi.

Hundreds showed up to participate in the link and bake sale, carwash and other activities.

Lifeshare was also there to collect blood donations.

The foundation honors Avery by providing college scholarships to high school seniors in her name.

12News Reporter Vanessa Holmes also participated in the event. She was in the dunking booth.
