One of Beaumont's oldest buildings is going up for sale. In less than two months, Hotel Beaumont will be auctioned off.
Built back in 1922, the building stands 11 stories high and has more than 200 rooms. A popular hotel and nightspot in its heyday, it later became a retirement center before closing down in 2011.
It is currently owned by the city, and city officials say several developers have already expressed interest in purchasing the property.
They will be able to place their bids April 1 at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
"There's just a lot of history with this building and it's a beautiful architecturally designed building, so it would be great if someone wanted to come in and turn it into a boutique hotel, or office space. It would just be wonderful for the downtown area," said City of Beaumont Capital Projects Manager Brenda Beadle.
An open house for interested buyers is scheduled for March 5.
Beadle says Hotel Beaumont has an appraised value of $1.4 million.
