College Street Health Care Center says nine residents positive for COVID-19

All staff and remaining residents have been tested according to the facility

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont nursing home says it's testing every resident and staff member after nine residents tested positive for COVID-19.

They were put in the hospital last week according to College Street Health Care Center.

One other resident has shown symptoms of the virus, and has been tested and hospitalized too.

Residents who test positive or who have symptoms will be isolated in one area of the facility, and others who test negative or are asymptomatic will be isolated in another area.

From a College Street Health Care Center news release:

First, we want to express our heartfelt concern for nine of our residents at College Street Healthcare Center who have tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts and prayers are with these residents and their family members.

The nine residents were hospitalized late last week after exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19. They were tested at the hospital, and all were diagnosed with COVID-19. One other resident has also exhibited symptoms of COVID-19 and has been hospitalized and tested. In addition, all of our remaining residents and staff have been tested as well. We have not yet received the results of these additional tests.

All of our residents have been restricted to their rooms or isolation areas for several weeks. Now that nine of our residents have tested positive for the virus, residents who test positive or who have symptoms associated with the virus will be isolated in one area of the center, and residents who test negative and are asymptomatic will be isolated in a different area.

The center continues to follow or exceed the guidelines issued by CMS, the CDC and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. No visitors are allowed at the center. Center staff wear masks at all times and wear gloves and patient-appropriate personal protective equipment when providing patient care. There are multiple formalized screening measures in place for staff when they enter and exit the center, including temperature checks. Staff closely monitor each resident, taking temperatures and monitoring respiratory signs and symptoms each shift.

We are coordinating our efforts with the Beaumont Public Health Department and are in communication with epidemiologists and other experts. We are taking appropriate steps to ensure the health and safety of all of our residents and staff as part of our ongoing effort to limit the spread of the virus. We have already contacted some family members and are in the process of contacting the remaining family members.

We fully recognize how difficult this time is for our residents and their family members. Working in conjunction with the appropriate authorities, we will continue to do everything we can to minimize the risk of exposure to all of our residents and staff and will continue to do so until the COVID-19 threat has subsided.
