Hardin-Jefferson ISD will return to class Wednesday following two days in which high flood waters have forced them to cancel classes.

Tuesday's announcement comes after TXDOT announced that Highway 326 will remain closed south of Sour lake however, and will mean families who live south of the schools will be forced to take alternative routes to school. Classes are expected to return at their normal times.

The following is a statement from the district on how individuals should return to school.

PRESS RELEASE FROM HJISD:

We recognize there are still many families suffering from the impact of the flood. We express our sympathy for those families, and we will work to transition those students back to school when it is appropriate. For those able to make it to campus, we will hold class on Wednesday, November 4th. Bells will sound and buses will make their rounds at their normal times. Please pay close attention to the following instructions:

Flooding on Hwy 326 – Currently water is over Hwy 326 just south of our High School. TxDOT has closed the road to through traffic. All students and parents residing in Jefferson County should allow for extra time to travel through Beaumont and down Hwy 105 to access the High School and Middle School campuses. Please also be patient in the morning as traffic in the Sour Lake area will be heavier than normal and parking at the secondary campuses will be tight. The District’s busses will also travel through Beaumont to pick up and deliver students. Morning pick up times will run on our normal schedule, however afternoon drop off times may be slightly later than normal due to the extra mileage.

Flooding on Campus – The student parking lot and the back drive still have water on them, and we anticipate the same condition in the morning. Students will park in the rock parking area near the home side football stands. Please enter the drive north of the Middle School (nearest Sour Lake) to access this parking lot. From there, students will be shuttled to the High School using one of our school busses. Please allow extra time in the morning for the shuttle. Parent drop off will take place in front of each campus as normal.

Absences – Flood related absences will be marked as excused. Please see the campus front office with any questions. Absences for other reasons will be coded per the student handbook.

We look forward to seeing you in the morning. Please be safe.
