BEAUMONT, Texas — Dr. Shannon Allen has been named as the lone finalist and acting superintendent in Beaumont ISD's search for superintendent.
She was named associate superintendent for secondary administration in November 2015 according to a previous BISD news release.
Dr. John Frossard, the current superintendent, plans to retire in June. Allen will become the first female superintendent in BISD history.
There was another candidate within BISD that withdrew before today's meeting.
Allen has to wait 21 days before taking on the role according to Texas law.
"I started out as a substitute teacher back in 1996 at Fehl Elementary School. To have the blessing of now standing in this position, it's amazing and I'm excited about the opportunity and what's to come for BISD," Allen said.
"I'm sure under her leadership, there will be no doubt that this district is going to succeed," Board President A.B. Bernard said.
Board members voted unanimously in favor of Allen.
A special school board meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon, and Allen was interviewed by the board.
When asked about her primary goal as superintendent, Allen told 12News it is to "improve all of our campuses, we want to attract families back to the district. To do so, we are going to improve our campuses, we're going to improve every facet of our organization and we're going to get families coming back in to BISD."

Allen said she hasn't 'digested' the decision yet, and "hope I've been an excellent representative for all women and for girls coming up in our community to see what is possible."
