Sam Tasby, a pioneer in the Dallas civil rights movement, has died at the age of 93 after a battle with cancer.
He was at the center of the desegregation movement in Dallas ISD more than 40 years ago.
More than a decade after the Supreme Court ruled that schools be desegregated, Tasby was told his kids would have to attend black schools that were further from his home than white schools.
In 1970, he filed suit and became the lead plaintiff in the desegregation case against Dallas ISD.
He prevailed, and a Dallas ISD middle school now bears his name.
The Dallas Morning News reports that a funeral will be held Saturday at Concord Church in Dallas.
