Woman accused of shooting ex in front of Bellaire police station arrested after standoff in Alabama, officials say

Bellaire police said the woman shot a man at the Bellaire police station during a domestic dispute. Choima Agurd, 39, was arrested after a chase and a standoff.

BELLAIRE, Texas — Authorities said a Georgia woman who shot a man during a domestic violence incident early Friday morning in the Houston area was taken into custody in Alabama hours after the shooting.

Bellaire Police Chief Onesimo Lopez said they got a call around 2:30 a.m. from five people saying they were being followed by a woman and were headed to the nearest police station to avoid confrontation.

Lopez said once they got to the police station, the woman, later identified by authorities as 39-year-old Choima Agurd, got into an argument with the people in the truck before she opened fire into the passenger side multiple times. She then took off. An officer at the station returned fire, but it's unclear if Agurd was hit.

The police chief said the passenger, the woman's ex-boyfriend, was hit several times and taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

Law enforcement sources said Agurd was taken into custody in Alabama -- about 630 miles away from the shooting scene -- around noon. Authorities in Alabama said she was arrested following a chase and a standoff along I-65.

Alabama authorities said Agurd was booked on a felony evading charge and said she also had warrants out of Bellaire for aggravated assault.
