Police: Man shoots self in chest after allegedly assaulting woman Tuesday night in Bridge City

Both the man and the woman were taken to a Southeast Texas hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

BRIDGE CITY, Texas — Police in Bridge City are investigating after a 60-year-old man shot himself in the chest after allegedly assaulting a 48-year-old woman Tuesday night.

Officers were sent to the 1300 block of Dogwood in Bridge City at about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday night after a woman was reported to be outside screaming according to a news release from Bridge City Police.

When officers arrived, the 48-year-old woman told them she had been assaulted at a home in the 100 block of Fernwood St which just around the corner.

Officers found a 60-year-old man on the kitchen floor of the Fernwood St home with a single gunshot wound to his chest police said. The man told officers he had shot intentionally himself according to the news release.

Both the wounded man and the woman were taken to a Southeast Texas hospital by Acadian Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries and are in stable condition police said.

Bridge City firefighters responded to the scene along with Bridge City Police and medics with Acadian Ambulance.
