Trio of Beaumont men charged with organized crime in theft of airsoft guns over weekend

Police say the three went into the Academy at about 8 p.m. Saturday night, grabbed airsoft guns worth $100 and left.

BEAUMONT, Texas —

Three Beaumont men have been charged with engaging in organized crime in connection with airsoft guns stolen from Academy over the weekend.

Beaumont Police were notified by a caller that the three had come into the store at about 8 p.m. Saturday night, while it was open, grabbed airsoft guns and left in a tan Suburban according to Beaumont Police Officer Haley Morrow.

When officers spotted the Suburban about an hour later and pulled it over they found 13 people in the SUV, including some juveniles, Morrow told 12News on Monday.

Jamaad Joseph Leday, 18, Jashawn Thompson, 18 and Rashode James Wiltz, 20, were all arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility Morrow said.

All three were booked on charges of "engaging in organized crime" and "theft of property greater than $100 but less than $750," according to jail records.

Leday's bond is set at a total of $10,000 while Thompson and Wiltz, who are also facing some unrelated charges, have higher bonds.

Thompson's bond is set at $75,000 and Wiltz's bond is $20,750 according to jail records.

None of the other 10 in the SUV were arrested, Morrow said.

Engaging in Organized crime in Texas is defined as "three or more persons who collaborate in carrying on criminal activities."

If convicted on the class A misdemeanor, they could face 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
