Trial begins Tuesday for man accused in fatal 2022 shooting at Orange apartment complex

After the April 2023 fatal shooting, he was arrested in Louisiana and extradited back to Texas in July 2023.

ORANGE, Texas — The trial of a 57-year-old man from Orange for the 2022 fatal shooting of another man gets underway in an Orange Courtroom on Tuesday.

Arthur A Blackmon, Jr., 57, of Orange, will stand trial this week before Judge Courtney Arkeen in  128th District Court for the murder of Richard James Williams, 42, of Orange.

Blackmon was indicted for the November 2022 murder in April 2023 and arrested the next month in Louisiana. He was extradited back to Texas in July 2023 and has been held on a $1,000,000 bond since then.

On Friday, November 11, 2022, police officers were sent to the Cove Terrace Apartments after 10:30 p.m. in reference to a shots fired call.

When officers arrived they found Williams, who had been shot.

Williams, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Precinct Three Justice of Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton.

Blackmon was indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury on April 26, 2023, for the murder of Williams, according to a news release from the Orange Police Department. 

Blackmon was found in New Orleans on May 4, 2023 and arrested without an incident.
