Hung jury declared for Beaumont man accused of continuous sexual abuse of child

The abuse reportedly went on for over six years and began when the victim was younger than 14-years-old.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The jury in the trial of 44-year-old Daniel Joseph Cranmer, of Beaumont,  was unable to come to a decision resulting in a hung jury.

Cranmer was arrested and indicted on continuous sexual abuse of child in July of 2022.

The abuse reportedly went on for over six years and began when the victim was younger than 14-years-old.

The trial was held at the Criminal District Court with the Honorable John Stevens presiding.

Prosecutor Mike Laird focused on the victim's courage to come forward and testify.

The defense questioned the credibility of the witnesses, suggesting their testimonies didn't show genuine distress.

Cranmer did not testify. He was facing 25 years to life in prison.

12News is waiting to learn if Cranmer will be retried.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
