LUMBERTON, Texas — A Lumberton high school student made a threat towards the district on a social media post Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
The Lumberton Police Department responded and located the student suspected of making the comments, Lumberton High School Principal, Travis Edgerton, said in a LISD press release.
"The Lumberton Police Department, Lumberton High School Administration, Lumberton ISD Administration, and Lumberton ISD Safety Teams worked through the night conducting a thorough investigation," he said.
Edgerton said that while the investigation continues, they can report that the student will not be on the LHS campus.
"I want to thank our local law enforcement partners and the LISD Safety and Security Team for the quick response to this situation. I am incredibly grateful to the students and families who reported seeing the comments on social media. We always encourage anyone with knowledge about threats, whether they are credible or not, to immediately inform campus administration, another trusted adult on campus, or law enforcement," he said.
"Please talk to your children about the serious nature of making threats because those words can lead to significant legal consequences. It is also important to remind students to report suspicious or concerning behavior rather than sharing information on social media. Thank you for helping keep LISD safe, and for partnering with us in the education of our students. This is a reminder that Lumberton ISD does not tolerate threats of any kind and will pursue all criminal and code of conduct remedies in these cases. Threats are never a joke and never okay," he said.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
