BEAUMONT, Texas — While fisherman were hoping for a trophy catch at Rayburn recently, Texas game wardens were angling to catch stolen equipment.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced on Facebook that its Marine Theft Investigation Unit had gone "fishing for stolen vehicles" during the Sealy Big Bass Splash Tournament at Sam Rayburn Lake. The tournament happened over the weekend of April 20-21, 2024.
The unit worked with game wardens from San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, Jasper, Tyler and Nacogdoches County in order to inspect 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers during the tournament.
Game wardens seized more than $100,000 worth of boats, motors and trailers.
The tournament is the largest in the state and drew hundreds of anglers from around the country, according to the TPW post.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
