BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont Police Department officer reportedly thought something was suspicious when he saw a pickup truck leaving a local tire shop, its bed loaded down with tires, at 3 a.m. while out on patrol.
While a truck leaving a tire store with tires obviously isn't that out of the ordinary, the sheer volume of the tires coupled with the early morning hours led the officer to believe something wasn't quite right.
The patrolling officer pulled the truck over, and upon further investigation recognized the driver as a known tire thief.
While initial attempts to contact the owner of the tire store to confirm the burglary failed due to the early hour, the suspect’s association with prior tire theft incidents raised significant suspicion of their involvement in a recent crime at the tire store.
The driver was arrested for traffic violations, and the investigation into the potential burglary is ongoing with police anticipating additional charges.
The Beaumont Police Department commented on the incident in a Facebook post saying, "The vigilance and proactive efforts of our officers are crucial in preventing and solving crimes. This incident underscores the importance of being alert and responsive to suspicious activities at any time of day."
Police urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the police department.
