NEDERLAND, Texas — A student was removed from the Nederland High School campus Friday after bringing a gun to school.
Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter told 12News a student told the assistant principal about the gun. The assistant principal notified a school resource officer and then the Nederland Police.
A ninth-grade boy brought a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun onto the campus, Chief Porter said.
The name of the student is not being released because he is a minor.
The student was removed from campus per the Student Code of Conduct and taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Center. He is expected to be charged with "possession of weapon where prohibited" according to Chief Porter.
The situation was handled quickly and Nederland police will handle the investigation.

This is to inform you of an incident that occurred at Nederland High School today, February 24, 2023. We learned that a student had brought a firearm to school. Campus administrators immediately reported it to the Nederland Police Department and the situation was handled quickly. Nederland PD will be handling the investigation. The student has been removed from campus in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
