Southeast Texas travel agent arrested again, facing new charges

She was arrested in mid-June on a felony theft charge in Jefferson County related to a nationwide vacation-travel scam.

KOUNTZE, Texas — A Southeast Texas travel agent from Bevil Oaks is once again back in jail facing new charges, in what has become an ongoing saga.

Wednesday afternoon Jefferson County Deputies arrested Mary Emily Lockard-Furry on 3 additional warrants for theft of property greater than $2,500 and less than $30,000, all related to her travel agency, TraveLuxe LLC.

She was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility Wednesday afternoon according to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

These cases were investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Detective Division.

Lockard-Furry also has 4 warrants for her arrest in Hardin County also related to her travel agency. No bonds have been set at this time.

Back in July, Lockard-Furry, 38, of Bevil Oaks, was booked into the Hardin County Jail  on a felony theft charge according to jail records.

She was first arrested in mid-June on a felony theft charge in Jefferson County related to a nationwide vacation-travel scam.

Lockard-Furry is facing a charge of theft by deception over $2,500 but less than $30,000 according to a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office news release.

Jefferson County deputies began investigating her in connection with a nationwide vacation-travel scam she was allegedly running according to file stories.

Through her company, Traveluxe LLC, she was hired to book primarily international vacations for families and individuals.

After requesting payment up front, Furry would make initial reservations to hold a hotel room but not follow through “with the financial portion of the reservations,” according to deputies.

Instead of paying for the rest of her client’s reservations, Furry would pocket the money, leaving her clients without any of the reservations or accommodations they had been promised, the release said.

Some of her clients ended up stranded out of the country. As the scam continued more victims came forward requesting help.

Jefferson County deputies worked with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to build a case and get an arrest warrant for Furry, according file stories.

The day before Furry was arrested on the Jefferson County charge, a search warrant was executed at her Bevil Oaks home on Monday, June 17, 2024.

She was arrested by detectives and deputies with the Fugitive Warrant Division at a home in rural Jefferson County.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
