Stevens then sentenced Gerard to 25 years in prison as part of a plea deal.

He was indicted less than a month after the shooting in June 2021.

Initially police asked for the public's help in finding Summerville following the fatal shooting.

Police said at the time that Summerville had been shot several times on May 27, 2021, at the Avery Trace Apartments in Port Arthur.

He was taken to a Southeast Texas hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
