Port Arthur Police seek 2 men after interrupting ATM theft early Monday morning

The men were using a pickup stolen in Jasper in their unsuccessful bid to steal the ATM, but they were not able to move it from it's spot.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur Police are searching for two men they found in the act of trying to steal an ATM early Monday morning.

When officers arrived at the scene of the crime in the 2800 block of Aero Dr. at about 5 a.m. the two men ran from them according to Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso.

Officers chased them but were unable to catch them Duriso told 12News.

Aero drive is just south of the Jack Brooks Regional Airport and runs east under U.S. Highway 69 where it then becomes Nederland Ave.

The two men were using a pickup stolen in Jasper in their unsuccessful bid to unseat the ATM, according to Duriso. They were not able to move the ATM from its spot before officers arrived.

Police are unsure if the attempted theft was related to a battered ATM found still chained to an abandoned Dodge Ram pickup truck in Winnie early Saturday morning.
