PORT ARTHUR — Port Arthur Police have released the identity of a Port Arthur man who was fatally shot Wednesday night at a Port Arthur apartment complex.
Floyd Dergent, 49, was dead on the scene when police arrived at the Prince Hall Apartments just after 10:20 p.m. Wednesday night according to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department.
Police were initially dispatched to the complex at 914 West 14th Street for a report of shots being fired according to the release.
While officers were in route dispatchers were told that a man had been shot and officers found Dergent's body with a gunshot wound to his upper body the release said.
The murder is currently being investigated by the department's criminal investigations division according to the release.
