BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police questioning a 34-year-old Southeast Texas woman in connection with the murder of a Beaumont man four days ago at a north Beaumont home.

Detectives were looking for Jada Lynn Smith, 34, as a "person of interest" in connection with the death of Ronald Barnes, 57, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

Smith was arrested on warrants unrelated to the homicide and is now speaking with detectives according to BPD.

Just after 3 a.m., on September 14, 2024, officers were sent to a house in the 2200 block of Ives St. where they found Barnes' body inside.

Police have already spoken to at least one other "person of interest" in connection with the homicide.

Beaumont Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Detectives, in coordination with the Narcotics Unit, are leading the investigation.

He was arrested along with Donald Barnes, 57, after officers found approximately 14 ounces of Synthetic Marijuana and a rifle.

Police have not said if the murder is related to his arrest in August.
