Police release surveillance video of suspect in fatal Monday night shooting of store clerk as search for gunman continues

The suspect entered the store and started talking to the clerk before shooting him twice, according to Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur Police are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting of a store clerk Monday night.

Late Sunday night, police released surveillance footage from the deadly shooting.

Manoj Fernando, 39, of Bridge City, was fatally shot at the Valero gas station on West Gulfway Dr., according to Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett. His name was released Tuesday morning.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting that happened around 8:15 p.m.

Fernando was on his first day on the job and they believe he was not from the U.S., according to Burnett.

He was working the counter while another clerk was working in the cooler when the suspect, dressed in all black, walked into the store.

After walking in the suspect started talking with the Fernando and then shot him twice, according to Burnett.
Police believe the shooting was part of an attempted robbery.

Burnett has ordered an autopsy.

Port Arthur Police are asking residents in the immediate area to check their surveillance cameras to help them identify the suspect.
