BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police have a suspect in custody after a man was found dead near a Beaumont business Monday morning.
Officers are continuing to investigate what police say is the city's first homicide of 2023. Beaumont police responded to the 1200 block of South 11th Street in after receiving a call about a "possible deceased person near dumpsters," shortly after 7 a.m.
Officers found a 64-year-old man by the dumpsters at Beaumont business. Beaumont Police said they believe the victim is Gerardo Solis Ramos.
Officers believe the man has no local ties to the community. They are working to positively identify him and find members of his family.
Police later arrested Florencio Castillo Guillen in connection with the homicide. He is charged with murder and is being held on a $1 million, Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. told 12News.
Judge Collins has ordered an autopsy.
A motive for the murder has not been specified.
