Bond set at $1M for Beaumont man accused of murdering man with baseball bat

His girlfriend was also arrested for hindering apprehension in connection with the case.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police have arrested a Beaumont man in connection to the death of a 66-year-old Beaumont man who was hit in the head with a baseball bat on in May.

White's girlfriend was also arrested for hindering apprehension.

Police obtained a warrant for murder naming Darrin Dwayne White, 56, of Beaumont, as a suspect in the case. White was also wanted on an unrelated parole violation for aggravated robbery and Beaumont city warrants, according to a news release from police.

White's bond was set at $1 million on the murder charge Wednesday morning by Jefferson County Criminal Magistrate Marc DeRouen. However, White will be unable to make bond because there is a hold on him for a parole violation according to jail records.

He was released on parole in September 2019 after serving 25 years of a 75-year sentence for aggravated robbery, according to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesperson.

At about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, police received a call about a "disturbance involving a baseball bat" at the Senior Citizen's Y-House Apartments at 930 Calder Ave.

When officers arrived they found Dorsey Sias, 66, of Beaumont, suffering from head injuries the release said. The location is near the intersection of Calder Ave and Magnolia St.

Police say Sias was struck in the head several times with a baseball bat. They also said whoever hit Sias with the bat left the area on foot heading east on Calder.

The incident happened in an outside "common area" at the apartment building.

Sias, who was not able to give police any information, was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, according to the release.

He was in stable condition when he was taken to the hospital, but took a turn for the worse and later died, police said.
