Orange County jury sentences woman to 10 years probation, $10K fine for 2023 fatal shooting of 25-year-old man

The man died in a Beaumont hospital after being taken there by ambulance.

ORANGE, Texas — A 29-year-old woman from Orange has been found guilty by an Orange County jury of manslaughter in the April 2023 shooting death of a 25-year-old man.

Shontasia Dia'Nay Garrett, 29, of Orange, was found guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter on Tuesday, September 24,2024, after four trial days that began last week before Judge Rex Peveto in the 163rd District Court.

The jury sentenced her to 10 years probation and she will have to pay a $10,000 fine.

Dia'Nay was found guilty of fatally shooting Dalvin Levi, 25, in the 1800 block of West Church St on April 1, 2023.

Levi died at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after being taken there by ambulance.

Officers were sent to the area of 1800 West Church St at about 2:30 a.m. after a caller reported shots being fired according to a file story.

When they got there officers found the Levi lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, Garrett was arrested and charged with the murder and taken to the Orange County Jail.
