ORANGE, Texas — A chance encounter with a driver by an alert deputy resulted in the capture of a Harris County murder suspect in Orange County Monday.
Darrian Daquan Hall, 20, was initially arrested by Orange County deputies on a public intoxication charge but is now being held on a capital murder warrant from Harris County.
Deputy Summer Magnen was on patrol along FM 1442 near Linscomb Rd at about 10:50 a.m., Monday morning, when she spotted Hall sitting in a vehicle alongside of the road according to Captain Joey Jacobs of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
When she stopped to talk to him she noticed he was acting strangely, there was a large amount of blood in the vehicle and that his speech was slurred Jacobs said.
When she asked him to get out of the vehicle she also noted that his balance was poor so she took him into custody for public intoxication Jacobs told 12News.
Not long after calling for backup she and another deputy determined that Hall was wanted for a murder in Harris County. Hall is a suspect in the February 27, 2023, stabbing death of Deandre Nicholas, 30, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Nicholas was found on the side of the road covered in blood in the 400 block of Cypress Station road in North Harris County at about 2:54 a.m. Monday according to a Harris County Sheriff's Office news release.
He was pronounced dead at Houston Northwest Hospital.
Harris County investigators learned that he was stabbed at a nearby park and then walked from the park before collapsing on the side of the road the release said.
Harris County detectives then filed a capital murder warrant for Hall Jacobs said.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
