Beaumont officers, Jefferson County deputies make 24 arrests during crime suppression op

The operation, which lasted four days, was a collaborative effort between Beaumont Police and Jefferson County deputies.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police and Jefferson County deputies ran a crime suppression operation last week that resulted in 24 arrests and the recovery of two guns.

The "violent crime suppression operation," which ran from Wednesday, June 24, 2024, through Saturday, June 28, 2024, was a collaborative effort of the police department and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

Police used the operation to target "key areas" across the city to help cut down on violent crime, according to the news release.

"The focused effort of law enforcement in targeting violent crimes is crucial for maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law," Beaumont Police Chief Jimmy Singletary was quoted as saying in the release.

Arrests made by officers and deputies were for offenses such as assault on a peace officer, felon in possession of a gun, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and narcotics violations, the release said. There were also arrests for possession of fraudulent information, failure to identify and for several outstanding warrants.

In addition to the 24 arrests and the recovery of two guns, police and deputies also served two search warrants, made 70 high-risk traffic stops and served 20 warrants, according to the release. The 20 warrants brought in more than $5,500 in fines.

"Operations like these not only remove dangerous individuals from our streets but also send a clear message that violent crime will not be tolerated in our community," Singletary said.
